Old King James I of England was a bit of a joker! When he wasn't hanging witches, picking his nose or picking on Guy Fawkes, he liked nothing better than a bit of cruelty.
His old mate, Sir Walter Raleigh, was sentenced to death. King James decided to pardon him. But, just for a cruel joke, he didn't tell Wally Raleigh that he was pardoned!
Old Wally wandered up to the scaffold and placed his neck on the block. Just when he was sure he'd wake up in heaven ... the pardon was delivered! Laugh? Wally wet himself.
And, just for an extra laugh James sent Wall back to the block years later ... and this time, just as Wally waited for the pardon ... the axe came down and lopped his head off.
