A
Terry Deary play, published for the first time, for you to
perform with your friends ....... and the sad, but true
tale of Terry Deary's Sad Life of Toil (work - to you).
YOUR
FAVOURITE AUTHOR?
What
did your favourite author do before he or she was a writer?
Don't know? Me neither.
But
that Terry Deary had a load of useless jobs - he started work
at the age of 3. He was so ugly his dad hired him out to cure
people with hiccups. Terry wanted to be a clockmaker but he
couldn't find the time. So he got a job as a lift operator
but he kept getting lost.
His
next job was checking fruit in a factory - he got the sack
cos he was throwing out the bananas that were bent. His last
job was raking up autumn leaves. He was good at that but he
had to pack it in after he fell out of a tree.
His
favourite job was as an actor with Theatre Powys in Mid-Wales
(that's true). And that's how he started writing. He wrote
plays for the theatre company and later turned them into books.
He still likes shoving the odd play-script into his book as
well as writing plays for the big theatres.
He's
even got a play on this Christmas in Cardiff. For details
go to DEARY's DIARY in
THE HOUSE OF ADVENTURE.
PERFORM
in ONE of TERRY'S DREADFUL DRAMAS - "THE WASHINGTON WITCH"
Or
if you can't get to the theatre because your parents are too
mean to take you, then why not get a few friends together
and turn one of Terry's dreadful dramas into a play. Perform
it in the street for your neighbours and make a fortune ...
they'll probably pay you to go away!
Here's
a play based on the true story of a woman in Washington, County
Durham. She was known as the Washington Witch.
The
"Ducking" test and the "Love Potion" are well recorded in
old history books. Perform this with friends at home or school
or record it as a radio play ...
THE
WASHINGTON WITCH
Dr
Dee says ... The Washington Witch was first performed by
students at Hetton School, County Durham. It was performed
both indoors and outdoors with simple costumes and very few
props needed.
This
website has the ONLY published version. Any school or drama
group is welcome to perform it. Dr Dee won't charge you
a penny - even if your tight-fisted Drama teacher sells a
thousand tickets at £5 a time!
But
it would be good to hear from any groups who do stage it.
Write to Dr Dee by email.
